University Residence of Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (hereinafter abbreviated as Unires) is a residential or student dormitory of UMY. The existence of Unires originated from the desire of Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta to have a student dormitory that is representative for student development. The goal is to provide personality and Islamic guidance for UMY students. It turned out that the tit for tat, this desire was welcomed by a government program that gave a Simple Rental Flats (RUSUNAWA) to a private university as a place of residence for students.UMY received three twin Rusunawa blocks in design and technically changed to cross blocks with internal assistance funds. One building is located on the north side of the campus and the other two on the south. Then the Rusunawa with the Unires name was inaugurated by the Minister of Public Works of the Republic of Indonesia on February 29, 2008.Unires was used since it was inaugurated with a semester trial program and only for female students. After that it was officially used for students in one building in the north and students in two southern buildings. Every year Unires gives birth to around 300 students.
