The water is fabulous, good for swimm along with wonderful turtles and fishes. Want to visit this beautiful island? The only way is by walk or rent a bicycle near the resort. "

14 June 2017To say Sunrise Resort was a traumatising experience would be an understatement. (We are journalists, so that's saying something.)
Our credit cards (4 collectively) were taken from the bedroom safe, in addition to a silver ring from the bedroom.
The two western managers were unsympathetic and did little to help us out of this quagmire. We were left with no more than 1m IDR (that's just over 60 euros) in our pockets.
They also dragged their feet when it came to calling the police to the scene -- citing the fact "this is Indonesia." (Note: there is no police on this island. The nearest station is in neighboring Lombok.)
When we arrived in Lombok, we were informed by the police chief that the managers had in fact told them "not" to come to Gili Air. Keep in mind, we needed a police report for insurance purposes.
Much to our surprise, on our return -- having already cancelled all the cards -- three of them had miraculously "reappeared" inside the safe. (Note: we had searched the safe with an iPhone torch light and taken out and shaken the little fabric at the bottom.) We had even shown the safe to one of the managers on the night of the events.
To our horror, there was no apology from Sunrise's management.
Also despite being aware of our situation, they demanded immediate payment for the hotel. The email read: Please send the proof (of transfer status) "now!" When we did provide proof of transfer, we were met with a threatening tone, as the transfer was not "immediate." (it takes 2-3 working days for an international transfer to come through.)
Moreover, zero gestures of good will were offered. In fact they complained about having been "inconvenienced."
All that said, on a positive note, the location of the resort is top-notch -- by one of the best beaches and a fantastic snorkeling spot. Also, the local staff are relatively eager to help.
Sunrise Resort however is in need of renovation. Do be aware: the photos on the site do not reflect what awaits you.
They do an extremely lazy and superficial job of cleaning the rooms daily. They only make the bed and (occasionally) provide clean towels.
The food is average at best -- certainly in comparison to the likes of Scallywag.
Last but not least, you're not getting value for money.

Sorry guys that's not a way to do business!
