24 February 2018As guides they sorted out many things for me (tides, boats, wind direction, less known spots). From what I've seen the two guides I've surfed with where some of the friendliest, they were respected wherever we went to & I never had any troubles. Each was helpful in the water & I also got my board repaired for a reasonable fee. I think it makes sense to support a local business and these boys know their job very well. "

" Great experience!! The guys really take care of everything. Depending on your level they choose the right spot and within the spot the right wave. If you are more advanced, you go for bigger waves, if you are more of a beginner you start with smaller waves. With maximum two students per instructor you really learn a lot in a short period. Your instructor always stays right next to you and when you are ready he helps you taking a wave. While you paddle back to the line-up the instructor takes care of the next student. After surfing they shared some local snacks and if you want they drive with you to a really beautiful beach for chilling or show you some sunset spot in the evening. In summary, I can totally recommend them. I have visited several surfcamps and surfschools and monkey surf is by far the best. "

1.They are trying to support local people and to give them a perspective.
Originally wanted to go there for three surf lessons but stopped at two because of the bad service.
I came there in May as a total beginner. A guide, who could not speak English very well, acommpained me me to a starter beach, but he, because of his bad English, could not answer most of my question and just gave me a basic introduction. Moreover most of the time in the water he was talking to friends instead of paying attention to me.
On the second day I had another guide, I don't know why. For making progress it would be better to have one surfing teacher in my opinion. But nevertheless his English was even worse than the one's on the first day and he went with me to a very difficult spot, especially when it's your second time surfing. Then the surfing lessons was over one hour earlier, because of "weather issues". At least they gave me part of my money back, which was quiet nice.
I decided to go to another surf school in the south west of Lombok called "Lombok wave" which was very amazing in comparison and my teacher could spoke English well.
All in all a very bad experience and I would not advise anybody to go there for first time surfing. I don't know about more progressed surfers, but maybe for them it can be better.
In contrast I want to mention that the owners of the surf school were always nice and welcoming and that I think its good that they are trying to support local people. "

" I booked a beginner lesson with Monkey and I had a great time. Bahtiar and his girlfriend are lovely. I waited around a while for my lesson but they offered me a drink for my troubles. I had a great teacher (1:1) and he was really encouraging when I couldn't stand up at the beginning. They chose the best beaches and we went to Selong Belanak which was perfect for beginnners. " I can highly recommend monkey surf school. We had just 1 lesson (1 day - split in 2 parts) but it was a great experience. The surf teachers gave us all the support that was needed to stand the waves (2 students per teacher). I would say it went really well, everybody was able to surf a couple of waves.
08 August 2017Apart from that it is a locally owned surf school. It gives many young locals a good chance to learn basic things and have a regular income!

" A small Indonesian-run surf shop. The guides are very young, but don't let this mislead you; they have been surfing all their life! They are very good teachers and show a lot of understanding for beginner mistakes.

" Ich war mit meiner Freundin bei der Monkey Surf School. Als komplette Beginner waren wir etwas nervös, die Jungs haben uns aber erklärt wie's geht. Wir waren zuerst 2 Tage am Anfängerstrand Selong Belanak (fantastisch schön), dann ging's noch für zwei Tage mit dem Boot an eine Bucht (Gerupuk). Das war der Hammer, leider war es aber am letzten Tag zu windig und die Wellen brachen zu schnell. Trotzdem kann ich die monkey surf school in Lombok wärmstens empfehlen. Weiter sso! "
