" Very sketchy and disgusting. The photos on the website were taken when the place opened 20 years ago or so. It now looks like an outhouse, and owner is very hostile. Be warned. Don’t make the mistake and stay here you will regret it. We left after one night "

" Nice place to stay and very good value. Beautiful garden and view from the room. I was nervous having read the other reviews, but I was very happy with the place. The doors and windows lock, so I'm not sure how other reviews say things were stolen from rooms. The staff were lovely (no sign of the apparently infamous mad Frenchman though). "

" "Don't go there"
01 March 2017I stayed there two nights, in the second evening when I had dinner someone got in my room and stole my stuff.
The owner wasn't helpful at all. felt like he didn't care really about my lost stuff. Maybe he was involved by himself. The place is run down. There are definitely better options. "

" I have to agree with the previous comment. By far the worst and most unhygenic place I have ever been to. Never again. Much better places in the surrounding areas. "

" Well, well, well. Looks like they deleted my review from last year. We just had to deal with the useless French owner who tried to impound our taxi because we wanted to use a difference service from the one that gives him a kickback. So here it is:
18 September 2015This is, without a doubt, the worst place I have ever stayed since I began travelling 7 years ago. It is not just inaccurate to call themselves a “hotel”, it is flat-out wrong. When I got to my room the sheets were dirty, the bathroom stank, and the mosquito nets had masking tape on them to patch the holes. The “shower” was a pipe in the wall that dribbled out water in a range of temperatures and after 5 flushes the toilet stopped working.
Next I had to deal with an individual called Sahrul who has absolutely no idea how to run a place that hosts guests or communicate about an issue that he doesn't like. Here are some examples:
1.) I asked politely (and repeatedly) for him or his staff to fix our toilet. Each time he either forgot to do anything or just poked around the mechanisms without any success. Nevertheless, he kept pestering me to pay my bill in full. Eventually this came to a head when I asked him for the fifth time to fix the toilet and then he asked me for money. I told him that I will pay when I can go to the toilet and set off to check into the Aman Gati Hotel (that is the best in the area). He then followed me to the hotel and went off the richter scale, screaming at me. I could not reason with him so I simply stopped talking and he continued to shout at me for several minutes. The hotel's security had to ask him to leave.
2.) The restaurant at this place has a terrible router for wifi that can handle about 10 connections. In order for new people join the router after a new day starts, it needs to be reset. This is something I would do when Sahrul wasn't around and it helped many other guests get online and check in with their loved ones. When Sahrul was there he refused to let me do it, brandishing his laptop with a YouTube video to prove just how right he was. When I tried to explain the limits of routers he, once again, went completely apoplectic and told me that I shouldn't expect so much from jungle living. Once again, I simply stopped speaking as there was no reasoning with this idiotic human being.
If you are considering staying here, please don't. The cheap rates are not worth it and if you walk 50 meters down the road to Balumba you'll get similar prices with acceptable rooms and hygiene. If you go to the Aman Gati Hotel you can negotiate and pay roughly twice the price of the Lakey Beach Hole and get clean sheets, half-decent rooms, proper air-conditioning, and toilets that don't stink of the sewers.
