" I went to Tenganan several times. My main reason came here was for a palm leaves painting. I found several artist that had amazing works. I love their art and I would like to collect more of them.

Some time in June and July, they usually have pandan leaves war (perang pandan/mekara-kara). Pandan is a mass coming-of-age ritual, dedicated to the Hindu god of war and the sky, Indra. It sees friendly duels between all male villagers, who bout each other armed with a small rattan shield in one hand and a tied packet of thorny 'pandan' leaves in the other. "

" Unfortunately the old buildings are not well preserved so the ambience is more touristy than original Balinese. But it's still nice to go, perhaps during their festivals. "

" We had a great guided tour around this traditional area. The guide was a local and was very informative while also being relaxed and entertaining. We heard a lot about the local culture and saw a lot of their crafts and produce. We had the opportunity to also buy some local crafts including sarongs. All round it was a great experience which I highly recommend. "
