" Three tower water temple by Lake Tamblingan

Pura Ulun Danu Tamblingan temple is the main temple of Lake Tamblingan, not to be confused with Ulun Danu Buyan temple which is on an elevated ground near Lake Buyan or the iconic Ulun Danu Bratan temple which is the famous water temple in Bedugul.

Pura Ulun Danu Tamblingan temple is located on a plain grassland on the lakeshore of Lake Tamblingan. The temple has a three-door, tall, impressive, carved stone gapura gate, covered with mosses, makes it look ancient. The temple is a simple rectangular shape fenced with stonewalls. The compound doesn’t have a separate outer and inner temple. Inside the compound is three tower shrines for worship, made from wood and dried leaves. Tourists are prohibited to enter into the inner temple.

Beyond the tempe is the plain grassland and the densely forested mountain. There are more than ten temples including Naga Loka (dragon realms), Pura Endek, Pura Sang Hyang Kawuh, Pura Tirta Mengening, and temples at the top of mountains. Some temples precede the Hindu era, built prior to the first millennium.

Tamblingan is derived from Tamba (cure, heal) and Eling (spiritual awareness). "
