" We stayed in Sibetan a few days to visit inland Bali and breathe a little in the middle of our 3 weeks (diving oriented) vacation. Well, this happened to be one of the best things we did in Bali! We had the chance to get in touch with different members of the Sibetan village local association (BSVLC) during our stay and do many activities with them.
20 June 2017Before to tell you what we did, I would like to say their activities are actually very different from usual tours you can benefit in the bigger villages (meaning where tourism already is a big deal). People in Sibetan are genuinely eager to know you, and want you to love the time spent in their village. Tourists are pretty rare there (for now?), and the general mood really is very different from crowded places. Plus, prices for everything were much better than those you get in touristic villages.
With Bagus and his lovely team of local volunteers, you will be able to visit real jewels. We were taken for the loveliest walk in the local rice fields, while talking about how the local farmers organize themselves to share their natural resources. After that, we went to see an important place where women make those little (and bigger!) offerings you see everywhere around Bali. We also had the chance to be blessed there. It was a very intense experience and I didn't even know i could expect to experience it as a foreigner. Then, we went to visit one of the nicest houses under the trees we saw in all bali to enjoy a drink and accompany an elder palm wine maker. This was very moving and we learnt a lot. Finally, we visited one of the volunteer’s home where we were offered homemade candy and had lunch later at beautiful Bagus's place.
You can also learn to draw some batik there ! One of the volunteers, Hio, will help you make your own paints. We spent a few hours with him in his house too and really enjoyed this moment.
To sum up, i would say: Go visit Sibetan ! Yes, just go. BSVLC really is your family in Bali, and you will be able to discover some untouched Balinese rural life there. We went to visit sideman later, and if it was also beautiful and all, the mood and the people weren’t the same to me.
